In gutter cleaning gadgets (one), I wrote about the Loog robot. Now I want to show you a top-of-the-line gutter cleaning gadget, the SkyVak Pro. This machine is made by a company called The Spinaclean Group.
Basically this is a huge powerful vacuum that with extension polls, sucks the debris out of the gutters. The SkyVac Pro costs approx $3000 and more if you add accessories like the SkyCam, which is another $700.00.
I really like this machine mainly because it's a big cool tool that looks like a lot of fun to use. Maybe I will buy one one day, but there is one main reason why I haven't yet. I just know this machine will clog up a lot, especially when I clean gutters in the spring when there are a lot of twigs and branches. The Spinaclean Group actually includes a picture of the SkyVac clogged in their own promotional material! Look below.
There is just no way this giant gutter divot is gonna be sucked through that skinny pole.
I did get a chance to see the SkyVac in action. A couple of years ago, I saw a company using this same machine to clean out some gutters in Watertown MA. I don't know how full the gutters were, but the machine seemed to be doing a fine job.
There are other gutter vacs on the market too. There is the "Gutter Vacuum" that looks a lot like the SkyVac and also has the optional camera. Then there is the "Gutter Keeper" which can handle vacuuming a lot of water and wet material. What I really like about the "Gutter Keeper" is its futuristic syfy look. It looks like your pushing around R2D2! There is also a gas powered gutter vaccum that I can't seem to find at the moment.
I would love to try the SkyVac out in real life to see how it really works. I would start by cleaning out the gutters out on my own house because they can be very tricky. I have to set my ladder on a hill while trying to avoid the power line.
I'm sure if you are a home owner you would probably get a lot of use out of the SkyVac. But it's hard to imagine paying that much for a commercial machine that will only be used for one home. Maybe it would make more sense if you are a member of a homeowners association.
I did another search for the Gutter Keeper. The Upkeeper Corporation replaced the old Gutter Keeper with a new version called the Titan. It is now bigger and more powerful.
It seems the Gutter Keeper no longer comes in the sci-fi version.
That's a real disappointment. No more R2D2!
